The German Research Foundation (DFG) has extended the funding for the transregional Collaborative Research Center 183 "Entangled States of Matter" for another four years. The funding for this research center, which has been active since 2016, is now entering its third and final funding period. Along with the Freie Universität Berlin, with Prof. Dr. Piet Brouwer as co-speaker, the University of Cologne and the Weizmann Institute of Science are also part of the consortium.

News from Jun 04, 2024

The scientific mission of the CRC 183 "Entangled States of Matter" is to exploit the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics to engineer condensed matter systems that materialize entanglement in a tangible manner. Complex quantum systems can become entangled, meaning they exhibit simultaneous superpositions of different states of their subsystems. The theoretical investigations aim to make such entanglements usable in macroscopic systems, thereby ultimately laying the groundwork for new forms of information processing.

"We were optimistic after the Collaborative Research Center was particularly praised for its excellent research results during the review in February 2024. We are now looking forward to four more years in which we can jointly explore exciting questions in the cutting-edge area of condensed matter and quantum information," said Vice-Spokesperson Prof. Dr. Piet Brouwer.

The following research groups from the Department of Physics are collaborating on CRR 183 "Entangled States of Matter": AG Brouwer, AG Eisert, AG Franke, AG Koch, AG Breitkreiz, AG Reuther, AG von Oppen
