Diversity in the Cultures of Physics Summer School Berlin - Uppsala 2016
In 2016 the Summer School was established as a bilateral and annual exchange program for young physicists in the transition phase from Master to PhD studies.

2016 was the first year the Summer School was officially launched as Summer School "Diversity in the Cultures of Physics". It was held in cooperation between Freie Universität Berlin and Uppsala Universitet and funded by "Berliner Chancengleichheit Programm". The aim was to facilitate the transition from master to PhD, to open up transnational perspectives for a career in physics and to empower women in physics.
The 10 participants from the two universities spent for weeks together, two in each city. They got two know the different work cultures in the two universities, visited laboratoiess and fields of practice and discussed about gender inequalities and their profession.
The Summer School's programme consisted of a variety of activities, e.g.:
- Visits to different Institutes like the Fritz Haber Institute in Berlin
- Lectures of female physicists about different themes
- Outreach activities like workshops about presentation techniques and personal strenghts
- City tours like the "Women History Tour"
- Round table with PhD students
- Exercises and discussions about gender and discrimination
